It is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with a slight odor. It is easily soluble in water and various other organic solvents, and has active chemical properties that are prone to hydrolysis and polymerization. N-vinylpyrrolidone is also an extremely high-performance organic solvent.

N-vinylpyrrolidone has good solubility and is soluble in water and various organic solvents. This compound can react with many substances, such as polymerizing with some monomers to form copolymers, and can undergo condensation reactions with compounds such as amines and alcohols. It also exhibits certain surface activity and moisture absorption.
One of the main uses of N-vinylpyrrolidone is as a monomer for polymer compounds, participating in polymerization reactions to prepare polymers such as poly (N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and other polymer compounds. N-vinylpyrrolidone can also be used as a surfactant, thickener, complexing agent, catalyst carrier, etc.

Application
n-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) is commonly used as a reactive diluent for radiation curing in UV-coating, UV-inks, and UV adhesives. It is used as a monomer to produce water soluble polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) with uses in pharmaceuticals, oil field, cosmetics, food additives & adhesives. It is used in the manufacture of copolymers with, for example, acrylic acid, acrylates, vinyl acetate and acrylonitrile and in the synthesis of phenolic resins.

1. Plastic monomers can be added to the formulation of UV curable coatings to form flexible and hard plastic films. Adding NVP to radiation medical formulations can improve the elongation and viscosity of high and low gloss coatings.

2. The main reasons for investigating the use of scattering coatings in the furniture industry are the enhancement of product performance, improvement of productivity, and reduction of environmental pollution pressure through wood. Adding NVP to anti UV coatings used in the wooden flooring industry can provide physical properties equivalent to wax free flooring.
3. UB and EB curing coatings used in papermaking or paperboard generally require low viscosity and high reactivity. NVP meets these standards by improving fluidity and measurement levels, while maintaining good curing properties.
