Application:
Methyl butyrate is slightly soluble in water and difficult to hydrolyze. It can be hydrolyzed under strong alkaline conditions, and the hydrolysis products are butyric acid and methanol. At high temperatures, methyl butyrate will decompose into butyric acid and methanol. Methyl butyrate can also undergo ester exchange reactions with other esters to generate new ester products. Methyl butyrate can undergo alcoholysis and ammonolysis reactions, while it is prone to react with hydrogen halides and halogens
Methyl butyrate can be miscible with various organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers, and is slightly soluble in water. Methyl butyrate has strong solubility in oil and can effectively dissolve all natural oils except palm oil. It can dissolve nitrocellulose, phenolic resin, vinyl resin, etc., partially dissolve cordyceps resin, and not dissolve cellulose acetate.
Methyl butyrate is used as a spice, mainly to prepare essence such as milk, cheese and apple, and also as a solvent for ethyl cellulose, nitrocellulose and celluloid.
